DGA a NJ Golf Club
November
2023
Rick chips in for sandy on 16 to hold off JR on a fine winter day at Rumson - very little wind - some pin positions were crazy.
November 23, 2023 (Green Knoll)
It was a sunny very chilly morning and there was a frost delay. We started on the back nine around 9:30. Very few golfers on the course. It turned out to be a nice day, not very windy and the greens were receptive. Jim R and Reese tied with net 73 and Ed was one stroke behind. Jim R was the big money winner with 5 pots. At the Green Knoll Grill the discussion turned to a cheery topic of retirement and the complications of Medicare. I learned all about IRMAA which is an income-related monthly adjustment on top of the Medicare Part B and Part D premiums which works on a sliding scale based on how much income you have. IRMAA gave me a headache. I think several of our DGA members could start a consulting company to teach people about retirment issues over some cold ones on Saturday afternoons.
November 21, 2023 (Fiddler's Elbow)
Rick nips Reese by 1 shot at Fiddlers - Meadow. It was the first real winter day for winter golf - temps in the low 40s - ball not traveling as far but the best thing is we finished in 4:15 (last week 5:30) and it started to rain just as we were putting our clubs in our cars! Jim R won an amateur skin, a senior skin and a closest to the pin - MJ won a senior skin so all in all a good day for the DGA. JP decided not to play DGA and would have won! Plus he finished in the money in the Senior Net divsion.
November 18, 2023 (Quail Brook)
Mid 50's suuny day, but the wind made it feel much cooler early on. George C. makes 2 birdies, 8 nets, 2 net eagles and nips Ed by 1. Happy Birthday to Min - celebrates #93.
November 16, 2023 (Suburban GC)
It was a perfect late fall day - 65 and very little wind. Tillinghast did it to us again with plenty of uphill shots to speedy greens - most were small. Mike, Reese and Jim R tie with net 77 - MJ wins the most money by winning 4 pots. Reese won the other 3 pots.
November 14, 2023 (Neshanic Valley M/L)
Jim P wins by 1 shot over Jim R on a very windy day at NV. The greens were slow. The temps were pleasant enough in the mid 50s and the sun kept it from feeling a lot colder. This is the last counter of the season.
November 11, 2023 (Spooky Brook)
Spooky Brook played difficult especially for the late groups as the wind picked up. Dan wins by 1 over Jim R who missed a one-foot putt on 18 that would have tied Dan. Reese wins the most money by winning the net eagle pot and the back and tied the gross par 13 pot. Lots of advice for Charlie who wants new clubs and wasn't sure if getting fitted made sense. Handicap season ends Tuesday so next Saturday will be Winter Rules.
Rick has a very hot start to win over Reese by 2 shots. Scores would have been lower except for some very difficult pin positions and speedy greens. Plenty of 3-putts.
November 7, 2023 (Spooky Brook)
Rick had all the shots going today and wins by 6 over Babo and almost all the money. Babo started hot with a 1-foot birdie on one and chipping in for a bogey on 3 after losing his ball in weeds to the left of the green. Rick and Babo collected $14 each from MJ and George in the match bet. MJ won the "gone sandy" pot - he hit into the greenside bunkers on 7 through 12 but didn't make any! The weather wasn't as warm as predicted but still pleasant. Rick you can probably look forward to this round coming off next May!
November 4, 2023 (Quail Brook)
Started out pretty chilly but turned out to be a beautiful fall day for golf getting into the low 60s. Jim R., Jim P. and Greg were on fire on the front. Greg drained a 50+ foot putt on the fist hole for birdie. Jim P. drained a 40 foot birdie put on the par 3 4th hole and followed that up with a 3 footer for birdie (net eagle) on the 5th hole. Jim P. had one more birdie (net eagle) on the 12 hole from 10 feet after a great 169 yard 6 iron to a back pin position. Charlie was in the sand all day long and actually had a couple of sandies and also parred all the par 3s. Dan Price played a solid round and took the back nine. Rick had a rough front nine but turned it around on the back. Thanks for the beer Jim R.
A perfect late fall day at Heron Glen for the opening of the Caliendo season. Jim Rinaldi wins by 3 over JP and ties for first in the senior division.
