DGA a NJ Golf Club
2014
December 27, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
After a 1 hour frost delay, Larry Thiry ended Bob Babetski's winning streak with a net 62...and a 4 shot win over Bob Babetski and Dave Perry.
December 23, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
Four DGA members played Spooky Brook in 3.5 hours....it was cloudy and a little mist in the air but it never rained. Dave Perry romped by 7 shots. Jim Petronchak had a "Winter Eagle" when his 2nd shot on #15 found one of the 3 holes cut in the green. Too bad it wasn't the hole with the flag.
December 20, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
It's like taking candy from baby. Bob Babetski wins easily...again. This time by 5 shot over George "Bite Me" Keller...and his brother's dog took him up on that. Get well soon, George!
December 17, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
Mark Schuler nips Jim Petronchak by 1 shot.
December 15, 204 (Spooky Brook)
George Keller romps on a sunny day at Spooky Brook.
December 13, 2014 (Spooky Brook) Stableford
Sunny, cold and windy day and 40 degrees. A lot of complaints about no negative points for Net Bogey. Bob Babetski had no problem with the format and won by 6 points over Dave Perry and Bruce Rapp.
December 6, 2014 (Green Knoll)
Three DGA showed up to play. It was cloudy and the course was wet but there were no plugged balls. Not sure why the others dropped. It started to rain while driving to the bar after a 3 1/2 hour round. Bob Babetski wins by 2 shots over Dave Perry.
December 1, 2014 (Green Knoll)
Nice day with temps around 60. Mark Schuler had a 4 shot win. Greens really bumpy. Can Babo putt these greens?
November 29, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
A 1 hr frost delay. Temperature was 30 degrees but no wind. Greens were frozen so you had to play short and hope for a goof bounce. Babo wins again...this time by 7 shots.
November 25, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
It was a cloudy day in the 50's but with gusts of wind. Mark Schuler shoots net 70 to win by 2 shots over Jim Petronchak.
November 22, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
After a 1 hr 45 min frost delay, we played in sunny, cold and breezy conditions. Bob "I can't make a putt" Babetski romped to a six shot win...if he made half the makeable putts he had, it could have been a 61 or 62. Bob just missed a hole-in-one on #11 when his tee shot hit near the left bunker, bounced 30 feet in the air and took a hard right turn when it landed on the green and stopped 2 feet past the hole...yes, he made that putt!
November 15,2014 (Quail Brook)
A little cold but sunny 45 degrees with a 1.5 hour frost delay. Dave Perry shoots a consistent front and back to win with a net 64. Dennis Grote comes in 2nd for the second straight week on purporse so that he doesn't have to buy a round.
November 8, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
After a 40 minute frost delay, the day was nice, sunny and 50 degrees with a steady pace leading to an under 4 hour round. Bob Babetski shoots a career best 77 for a net 60...with an even par 36 on the front 9.
November 3, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
Good fall day with temps in the 60's. Course in good shape. Jim Rinaldi wins almost everything. Jim Petronchak wins almost nothing...but Jim P. and guest, Tom Onka, wins $4.
November 1, 2014 (Quail Brook)
From Joe Musella: 8 no shows but 4 dedicated members showed up to play. 4 umbrellas went out but only 3 returned. Dabe must like his 18 handicap at Quail. As Johnny Clifford (our Ireland bus driver) said to us at Lahinch in similar weather "Only f***ing Americans would play in this weather".
October 26, 2014 (Twisted Dunes)
Five guys completed the 3-day Atlantic City weekend with a Sunday round at Twisted Dunes. Although the day was bright and sunny with temps in the mid-60's, persistent winds of 20-30 MPH made playing conditions much more challenging. Frank Thiry-DGA took advantage of the chilly day by clean-sweeping all categories, except for the Gross Par 3 with George Nolan. No golfer was able to break 100.
October 25, 2014 (Shore Gate)
Dennis Grote continued his hot play and shot a steady 71 nipping Dave Perry by two shots and wins the front (tie) and back nine for a good money day. Shore Gate was difficult for most of us again with only 5 people breaking Net 80. Mansour comes in 14th place but wins $19 with 3 pots and won the closest to the pin contest when he was 2 inches away (and he made the putt).
October 24, 2014 (Stone Harbor)
Jim Petronchak shots gross 81/net 76 for a 4 shot win over Bob Babetski. Jim was the only player to break net 80. The 6th and 7th holes were particularly difficult for most people. There was a rumor that someone shot a 15 on the par 3 7th hole.
October 21, 2014 (Green Knoll)
Mark Schuler strolled to an easy 8 shot win at Green Knoll.
October 18, 2014 (Quail Brook)
Bruce Rapp uses every one of his 21 strokes for a 1shot victory over David Ellis. This prompted his Tampa Roommate to ask "Where the hell was this a couple of weeks ago?". Jim Rinaldi gets to the course a whopping 15 minutes before his tee time (yes, he was on the phone) only to find out that the course was running about 10 minutes ahead of schedule. Jim takes an 11 on the first hole but makes up for it with an eagle from the fairway bunker on the 2nd hole. He almost had a Johnny between the first and second holes.
October 9, 2014 (Innisbrook - Copperhead)
Mike Rolph shot a great Net 32 on the Back 9 for a total net 70 and a 1 shot win over John Rutigliano. Mike used that Net 70 to win the Fall Classic with a net 307 over 4 rounds. However, John Rutigliano won more money thanks to multiple pots. In the Match Play Finals, Greg "I am the Match Play Commissioner and I hate Match Play" Cavallo romped over Bob Babetski 9 & 7.
October 8, 2014 (Innisbrook - North)
Dave Perry shoots an amazing Net 31 on the Back 9 on his way to a Net 69 and a 3 shot win over Ron Ceglia Sr. Johnnys were recorded by Mike Jeffries (35-49) and Greg Cavallo (51-41). Des Sinclair had a Super Johnny (48-33).
October 7, 2014 (Innisbrook - Copperhead)
Copperhead took its tool on the group. Reese Evans shot net 76 for a 1 shot win over 5 guys.
October 6, 2014 (Innisbrook - North)
Five players broke net 80 led by Dennis Grote who shot Net 72 for a 3 shot win over Jim Petronchak and Doug Conway. In the Partners Final, the Bobbies (Babetski and Nowark) defeated Ron Ceglia Sr and Shane DeLeon +7....after almost squandering a +11 lead after 9 holes. It is the 6th Partners win for the Bobbies. Congratulations to the Bobbies! Ed Korleski had a Johnny (47-37)...but Babo had a Super Johnny (33-48).
October 5, 2014 (Innisbrook - Island) Better Ball
Shane DeLeon carried Doug Conway all day (Shane shot net 32 on the front 9 all by himself) as they nipped the Wolters/Cavallo team by 1 shot with a net 65.
October 4, 2014 (Innisbrook - South)
The DGA made it to Innisbrook about 90 minutes later than expected but we were still able to complete our round. The course was very wet from 2 weeks of rain and almost unplayable on the back 9. Ron Ceglia Sr, Ed Korleski and Jim Petronchak tied for 1st with net 74s.
September 29, 2014 (Fiddlers Elbow)
Three DGA's ventured to Fiddler's Elbow and the course was in terrific condition. Greens were fast and true. Ron Emma got off to a fast start and never looked back for a 5 shot win....and in the process shot another decent round with only three players!!!!
September 27. 2014 (Quail Brook)
Jim Rinaldi shoots 1 over par gross for a Net 62 and a 5 shot victory. Jim Petronchak also shot 1 over par but ends up in 4th place. In Match Play, Greg Cavallo defeats Des (Super Johnny) Sinclair 7 & 6 and will play for the Championship. Dave Perry has a career best THREE sandys.
September 24, 2014 (Berkshire Valley)
A beautiful day, course in great shape, fast greens, tough course with a lot of WATER. Ron Ceglia Sr nipped Bob Nowark by 1 shot.
September 20, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
Nineteen DGAers and a guest/prospective member ventured to Spooky Brook with tee times spanning 3 hours. Mansour Rismanchi set the early pace with a net 31 (gross 41) on the front 9, but it wasn't enough as John DeSimone shot net 28 (gross 40). John couldn't keep up the pace and ended with a bad Johnny to tie Joe Musella with net 66 (33-33). Larry Thiry also shot a consistent net 67 (34-33) to finish in 3rd place.
September 17, 2014 (Harkers Hollow)
Dan Price nipped Min Minutello by 1 shot with a Net 78. Probably the highest winning score in the history of the DGA.
September 13, 2014 (Great Bear Golf Club)
It was a rainy, miserable day at Great Bear. Luke Wolters seems to be making a habit of winning at Great Bear on World Series Day. Luke didn't quite shoot what he shot last year but then again it was raining steadily all day either. Luke's 73 was just enough to take first place with a net 73. Ron Emma made a come back from Friday, bad shin and all. There were 7 second place finishers on the front 9 with net 38. Luke was also in four pots.
Ron Ceglia Sr. won World Series by nipping out Min Minutello by 2 strokes. Ron shot net 78. More to follow on his World Series victory.
In Partners the Bobbies defeated Jim Petronchak and Mike Rolph +4 and are headed to the finals. Congratulations Bob and Bob.
September 12, 2014 (Great Bear Golf Club)
A beautiful Friday for a practice round at Great Bear. Rich Fitzgerald returned as defending World Series Champ and he picked up right where he left off. Shot a net 68 and won by 2 strokes. Other than Fitz and Ron Ceglia Sr. the rest of the field struggled. Especially Ron Emma who on the par 5 - 15th wasn't able to avoid a hooking 4 wood from John Rutigliano that caught him in his left shin.
September 10, 2014 (Heron Glen)
A very pleasant day at Heron Glen with temps in the 70's. Once again, Frank Thiry-DGA blitzkriegs the course and competition (as he did at Heron Glen last week) by shooting a net 60 to win by 7 shots over Dan Price. Mark Schuler also enjoyed a good day winning or tying 3 pots.
September 6, 2014 (Green Knoll)
On a hot, humid day, Joe Musella shoots a career best Gross 77 (Net 63) for a 5 shot victory. In Match Play, Babetski defeats Rismanchi 3 & 1 and is now in the Match Play Finals. In his first Offifial DGA Round, David Ellis comes in tied for 14th. Welcome to the DGA! Dennis Grote misses a 6 inch putt...SHORT!!
September 3, 2014 (Heron Glen)
While sitting in the bar marveling about Min shooting gross 80/net 64 (and beating his age again) aith 13 nets...little did we know that it wouldn't stand up since Frank Thiry-DGA walked in with a net 62, 14 nets and 9 net for par 3's (there were 5 par 3's)...Frank's par 3 scores were 1-3-2-2-1. Lots of good scores as the course was hard and dry....many of us hit the par 5's in two and one of us made a putt! Mike Rolph hit driver, 6 iron to two feet on #13 and made the putt! Jim Petronchak shoots even par 72 gross and wind only $4. Ron Ceglia Sr and Shane "I'm now in Florida" DeLeon beat the RE Boys +1. It was a good back and forth match that was tight throughout. The largest lead was +2.
August 30, 3014 (Quail Brook)
Bruce Rapp gets revenge for the 10 he took on the 18th hole last week and shoots net 62 to beat Dom Tucci by 1 shot. Minutello shoots his age AGAIN!!
August 27, 2014 (Neshanic Valley)
Reese Evans got off to a hot start - 1 under par gross on the front but couldn't hold on to beat Mike Rolph who shot gross 78 to win by 1 over the RE Boys. Ron Emma missed a 3 foot birdie putt on 18 which would have tied Mike. Reese had 4 birdies and just missed 2 others.
August 23, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
Shawn Smith and Luke Wolters tied for 1st with net 65's. They each bought a round when in fact it should have been Rismanchi since he won more than they did. In Match Play, Babetski def Rolph 4 & 3. John Rutigliano was 4 under par after 5 holes but had to drop out due to back issues (result of an auto accident last week). Get well soon, John! Johnnys were recorded by Tom Wrobel (29-39) and Larry Thiry (43-33).
August 20, 2014 (Mattawang)
Pleasant Day. Course not to yielding. Jim Petronchak beat out Rismanchi by 2 shots and had 3 birdies.
August 18, 2014 (Metedeconk National)
Three DGA Teams played in the NJSGA Member Day event. The format was Two Man Team Strokeplay Net with Aggregate (Stableford) Scoring. Every person's score counted to accumulate points. The DGA played the same format and the scores are displayed as points. AllPots were calculated based on both team members which is why there Boys had 6 (out of 8) Greenies. The course was fantastic and challenging which is why there was only 1 Birdie, 6 Net Birdies and 1 Net Eagle. Jim Rinaldi and Doug Conway finished 3rd in their flight and won a $40 Pro Shop Gift Certificate.
August 16, 2014 (Green Knoll)
It was a cool start to the round with temps in the 50's. Mansour Rismanchi birdied the 18th hole to win the back 9 and over all by 2 shots. He shot net 65 to win by 2 shots over Bruce Rapp and Jim Rinaldi. Rich Fitzgerald had gross scores of 5 through 10 on the front 9 and then came back to secure his Johnny (48-38).
August 13, 2014 (Heron Glen - Whites)
The sun broke through about an hour before the round began. Dan Price nipped Des Sinclair by 1 shot with a Net 70.
August 12, 2014 (Warrenbrook)
The threatening weather held off just long enough for the DGA to get the round played at Warrenbrook. Both groups got some light rain at the end of the round but there was no thunder or lightning. Jim Petronchak shot net 72 to nip Mike Jeffries and Ron Ceglia Sr by 1 shot.
August 9, 2014 (Quail Brook)
It was a great early August day for golf at Quail Brook, and Joe Musella took advantage and is the fourth WS qualifier this year. Joe did just enough to win with a net 65 and hold off Jim Petronchak who shot a 1 over par 73, net 66. Joe joins Bob Babetski, Ron Ceglia, Sr., and Ed Korleski as the 4 WS day qualifiers.
Congrats to Mr. WS Aggregate - Min Minutello - for qualifying for WS day by winning the aggregate with a net 72 at QB and a winning aggregate total of 278.
In the partners match, Jim Petronchak and Mike Rolph outlasted Joe Musella and Dave Perry +7, and in a partner/roomy individual match, Greg Cavallo got past Ed Korleski 2&1. Jim and Mike and Gregg are in the money in the respective tournaments. .
August 6, 2014 (Green Knoll)
A pleasant day at Green Knoll. There wasn't a league in sight and the course was wide open, of course until we got there . The scores weren't particularly low and the greens were very slow. Making a rare Wednesday appearance John Rutigliano had a one shot victory over Reese Evans and Mark Schuler who were involved in a partners match battle. Ron Ceglia Sr cleaned up, he had his hands in four Pots.
In Partners, Mark Schuler and Des Sinclair got off to the early 6 point lead but Ron Emma and Reese Evans had the match even at the turn. Des and Mark were up two going into 18. Ron Emma made an unbelievable 30 foot putt from the left side of the green for birdie and Ron and Reese won the match with the tie breaker. It was a match that they never lead the entire round. Congradulations to the RE's.
August 2, 2014 (Warrenbrook)
10 "Brave" DGA players showed up and played without ANY rain under overcast skies. The first group finished at least an hour before the next group. Joe Musella blitzed the field with a net 27 on the front and held on for a 5 shot win.
July 30, 2014 (Heron Glen)
Another top ten weather day and scores reflected it. 69 was the cut line. Min Minutello led the way by 3 over Mike Jeffries, Though Mike had an even par 36/29 on the back. Greg Cavallo started with a net 29 on the front but came back with a net 40 for a Johnny on the back.
July 29, 2014 (Trump National - Bedminster)
A visually intimidating course - rated just about the same as Quail - right! Jim R played just a bit steadier than Mike or Des.
July 26, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
The rough was low at Spooky Brook and so were the scores. Ed Korleski shot a career best Gross 75 (Net 57) for a 5 shot victory over Bob Babetski who also shot a career best Gross 79 (Net 62). Babo had a piece (or won) every Pot but one, but no Nassaus. Babo also defeated Ceglia Sr 3 & 2 in Match Play. Beers line was 69!
July 24, 2014 (Beacon Hill)
Larry Thiry hosted us at his club, Beacon Hill, and it was a great day. If you ever get there, have the butter burger....worth the calories. It was no surprise that the two people that had played the course before won money and the rest of us didn't. The course is tight with difficult greens and THICK rough and I didn't mention the tree lined fairways. The front nine was easier and many of us struggled on the back. Larry had an 8 shot win over Rolph and Min. Luann and Larry hosted us at Luann's house after the round for a barbeque which was great.
July 23, 2014 (Neshanic Valley)
Reese nips Mike J. and Dan by 1. Mike had a Johnny (30-40). The thunderstorm arrived just as the last group finished.
July 23, 2014 (Dunegrass, ME)
The DGA "Up Yours North" Tournament ended at Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach,ME. on a very hot and humid day. Larry Thiry was red hot and running away with the day after making birdies on #8 and #9. Then he ran into some old, bad habits by making an 8 on #14 and a 13 on #15. This resulted in very odd results with Doug Conway and Min Minutello winning $7 each even though they beat Larry by 3 shots....and Larry taking home $32 by winning the front 9 and most of the pots. In the separate "Up Yours North" Tournament, Min had a "Best 4 of 6 Nines" total of 142 for a 3 shot win. In the "Smelly Golf Shoes" competition, the judge, Frank Thiry-DGA declared that Luke Wolters won "by a nose".
July 22, 2014 (Dunegrass, ME)
The DGA "Up Yours North" Tournament moved to Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach, Me. Doug Conway used his local course knowledge to eke out a 1 shot win over Frank Thiry-DGA with a net 75.
July 21, 2014 (Nippo Lake, NH)
The DGA "Up Yours North" Tournament opened at Nippo Lakes Golf Club in Barrington, NH. The course was fun but challenging....even if it was only 5600 yards. It was hilly and tight and had small fast greens. Mn Minutello shot Net 71 for a 5 shot win.
July 19, 2014 (Neshanic Valley)
John Rutigliano took advantage of that extra stroke he gets with his DGA handicap and beats Jim Petronchak by 1 stroke. In Partners Match, Ceglia Sr/DeLeon defeated Grote/Rapp +7. The day started with 10 minutes between the first and second groups. It ended with a 4 hole gap.
July 19, 2014 (Plainfield Country Club)
Top Ten weather day on a true championship course. Very long with unbelievably tough greens...6616 yards and 139 slope.
July 17, 2014 (Neshanic Valley - Meadow/Lake)
A Top Ten Weather Day, but scores not so. Dave bribed Reese to take out Manny. So he tried whacking him on his right face on the 17th tee. However, Manny, bloodied and unbowed, persevered and won his match 2 & 1. Mike Rolph and Min Minutello tied with Net 68s for the win.
July 15, 2014 (Knoll West)
Ed Korleski continued his run with a 1 shot win over Shane DeLeon in the Doiley Open. The weather was threatening but held off until after the round. In Match Play Ed Korleski defeated Tom Wrobel 5 & 4. Highlight of the Day - Dave Perry was "away" 5 shots in a row on #1...he made an incredible triple bogey 7.
July 13, 2014 - Warrenbrook
Four people played Warrenbrook on a Sunday round that was very hot & humid. The occasional breeze was pleasant. Ron Emma had a 6 shot win.
July 12, 2014 (Green Knoll) - World Series #3
Scores were not as low as they have been lately but half the field shot net par or better. Ed Korleski nipped Doug Conway and Bruce Rapp by 1 shot with a Net 66. In Partners, the Bobbies routed Min and Luke +13. In Match Play, Dave Perry beat John Rutigliano (5 & 4) and Greg Cavallo defeated Reese Evans (5 & 3). None of the matches were very close. New Prospective Member, David Ellis, opened his qualifying with a Johnny (40-28).
July 10, 2014 (Architects)
The DGA visited Architects and it was a great track. We played the gold tees and some of us complained about the three par four holes on the back that were 432 yards or longer. Many of us hit driver - 3 iron or worse on these holes. That is everyone except for Dave "all my drives are 280 or longer" Perry who shot a pedestrian 79 gross for a net 64 and a 4 shot win.
July 5, 2014 (Quail Brook)
On a brilliant, sunny and warm day, Minutello whined his way to a two shot victory over Ceglia Sr. In Match Play, Sinclair wins 4 of the last 5 holes to defeat Price 1 Up. Also, Rismanchi won the first hole and never looked back as he defeated Frank Thiry 4 & 3. Perry had the only Johnny of the day.
July 2, 2014 (Neshanic Valley)
Hot and Muggy followed by severe thunderstorms midway through the Lake 9. One team made it through #15, the other two teams made it through #14. Reese Evans and Min Minutello tied with Net 31 on the Meadows Nine. Price was 1 Down to Sinclair through 14. They will have to replay the match.
July 1, 2014 (Blue Ridge Trail)
On a Top 10 day, 3 DGA members played Blue Ridge Trail in Mountain Top, PA....and as the name suggests, they spent a lot of time (almost 6 hours)searching for balls in the woods. Mike Rolph romped by 12 shots.
June 28, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
On a brilliant, sunny and warm day, Des Sinclair continued his hot play with a Net 61 for a 3 shot win over 3 other members. Des and Mike Rolph each shot Net 29 on the front 9. Johnnys were recorded by Bob Keller (41-30) and Ron Emma (30-42). There were 3 Partners Matches: Jim Petronchak & Mike Rolph edged Doug Conway & Larry Thiry, Ron Emma & Reese Evans defeated George Keller & Shawn Smith and Bob Nowark made his return from his broken ankle to team with Bob Babetski to beat Dan Price and John Rutigliano +12.
June 27, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
With all the pressure off with his individual match, Doug Conway found "the Zone"...he was 1 under on the front 9 and even par through 16 holes....only to make an 8 on #17....and then birdied 18 for a gross 75 and net 61....and a 4 shot win over Ron Emma and Mike Rolph.
June 25, 2014 (Mattawang)
Dan Price and Jim Rinaldi tied for 1st with a Net 70 in a round interrupted by lightning.
June 21, 2014 (Green Knoll)
This week's super low round goes to Des Sinclair as he shoots Net 60 for a 3 shot victory. A couple of impromptu Matches were played. Sinclair stunned Minutello 4 & 3 and Rolph romped Keller, G. 6 & 5. Babo birdied #6 bringing his average score on that hole to a 17.

June 14, 2014 (Warrenbrook)
Great weather for golf on World Series Day. Greens were a bit slow but that didn't stop Ron Ceglia Sr. He put an end to the banter about only high handicappers can go low. Ron shot a Gross 76 for a Net 62 and a 4 shot victory.
June 11, 2014 (Mattawang)
Mattawang was in good shape and deserves a return trip. Reese Evans nipped out Min Minutello by 1 shot.
June 7, 2014 (Spooky Brook)

May 26, 2014 (High Bridge Hills)
It was a Top Ten Day at High Bridge Hills. Ron Emma nipped out Dom Tucci by three shots with a little luck here and there around the course.
May 24, 2014 (Green Knoll)
It was cloudy & cool at the start....Mansour started cold but got red hot on the back nine and set anew record Net 25 for a 4 shot win over Dave Perry. It was a good Johnny for sure...his chipin birdie on 16 certainly helped. Other interesting notes: John Rutigliano had a good Johnny also. Bruce "the guy" bought a round before we voted and he still didn't get a "yes" from everyone. Des won his match over Larry 5 & 4 and Ron Ceglia Sr & Shane won their match over Fitz & Ron Ceglia Jr +13.
May 22, 2014 (Farmstead - Lake/Club)
It was a strange and wild day at Farmstead for the Morris Plains Rotary tournament. The forecast for isolated, severe thunderstorms was absolutely correct. We had two scary storms roll through during the round...with the 2nd one having a lot of lightning and torrential rains. We took refuge in the clubhouse for 30 minutes during that one. However, the rest of the day was sunny and warm! Jim Rinaldi and George Keller nipped out 3 others with net 68's. Seven guys were within 2 shots.
May 21, 2014 (Neshanic Valley - Ridge/Meadow)
It was a pleasant day at Neshanic Valley. Ron Emma started well and hung on for a 2 shot win over Mansour. Everyone shot net par or better. The course was empty.

May 10, 2014 (Spooky Brook)
