DGA a NJ Golf Club
March
2018
Quail Brook was closed so we headed over to Spooky. Dennis Grote sends an early morning wake up call for the DGA to change courses with good reason. He shoots a net 70 in difficult conditions. Heavy winds were still blowing from Friday's Nor'easter. Dave misses a 2.5 footer on 18 t o lose by 1 but he played just as steady. Nice shooting Dennis !
March 15, 2018 (Twisted Dunes)
Jim Rinaldi survived a very challenging round with 3 club winds. Twisted Dunes played much tougher than its 122 slope. On the back nine our foursome carded every score from 2 to 10. This will be a great track to play during the summer.
Dennis Grote rides a solid front nine, and survives a near Johnny to win by 1 . Greens and fairways were frozen for most of the round making for long drives and approach shots. Speaking of long shots the DNF (a DP first) resulted from a 100 yard, lost ball, screaming greenside bunker shot with the group behind on our ass. No more 8:00 tee times in winter please.
March 24, 2018 (Neshanic Valley R/L)
Somerset finally opens their courses on Saturday morning, after a couple days of Maybe, Maybe. Neshanic had soft fairways, and furry greens- add in the usual wind and it made for an interesting day. Don't think any putt uphill and into the wind made it to the hole all day. Bruce Rapp played a steady game and managed to break Dave Perry's dominant streak at Neshanic.
Mr. Babetski plays solid golf and wins by a mile over two other also-rans. Dave Perry puts on a putting S-show and makes a Johnny of some degree, but at least we enjoyed each others company.
Mr. Winter handicap Bob Babetski does it again edging Dave Perry and Jim Petronchak by one. Greens were smooth and scary fast making putting an adventure. Next week real golf - puppy rule out. Hope for a better turnout.
