DGA a NJ Golf Club
September 29, 2018 (Green Knoll)
DGA'ers were dropping like Prom dresses and only 7 DGA guys ended up playing. Green Knoll was very soggy, so we played Lift, Clean & Place in your own Fairway. Ed Korleski was the Mudder for the day shooting a Net 64 for a 7 shot victory over Charlie Connors. Dennis Grote had a Good Johnny and everyone had at least one Equity. The Polish players swept the POTS today.
September 27, 2018 (Essex County CC)
Mike Jeffries avoided others to win by 4 over Mark Schuler. We played the blue tees at 6617 yards and the rough was very high plus the greens were fast despite top dressing. Thanks to Dave for the invite to a very challenging course on a perfect weather day. Lots of laughs despite some high numbers.
September 22, 2018 (Spooky Brook)
The Fairways and Greens were HAIRY at Spooky Brook this week, but it did not effect Charlie Connors as he shoots a Net 65 for a four stroke victory. #17 claimed another victim when Ron Ceglia Jr. was 3 over Par Gross for the back nine coming into that hole. Four balls in the water on the way to a 12. In the Partners Tournament there was yet another forfeit resulting in a victory, unless there's a last minute Ruling.
September 15, 2018 - World Series Day - (Sea Oaks)
The simplest way to sum up World Series is two words, Dennis Grote. He was a late entry to play the practice round and it may have helped to make the difference. After finishing last on Friday it was a clean sweep on Saturday. His name was on just about every category. He tied the back 9, won Birdies, Net Birdies, Net Eagles, Greenies and Gross Par 3's. He won over $150 and the next highest winning amount was $26. Best of all he won World Series but more on that from the Commissioner.
In Match Play, Andrew (6 Iron) Keller exhibited great patience in defeating Jim Petronchak in a close match 2 & 1 and moves on to the finals. In Partners Bruce Rapp and Dennis Grote (again) defeated the Bobbies +4. Congratulations to all our winners.
The weather never got any better than cloudy and by the time we were finishing the back 9 it was drizzling. The fairways were a little beat up and the rough was long. Combined all that with cart paths only and it adds up to 5 1/2 hour rounds. Of course none of that bother Rich Fitzgerald as he finished first and won by 2 strokes with a net 72. Greg Cavallo came in second and was second on both the front and back.
We did run into some trouble on 16 . The first group collectively shot 44. Many shots to get over the water.
September 8, 2018 (Quail Brook)
QB's greens were in decent shape but played as if we were putting in mud. The greens eventually relented as Mansour, Dan and Andrew tied with net 68. They each saved a stroke somewhere in their round as there was also a three-way tie for 4th place as Jim P., Bill B., and Min. all shoot net 69. Mansour takes top money honors winning the B9 and greenie pot.
In match play, Andrew Keller played consistently and beat Dennis Grote 3&1 to move into the semi-final round. With the three-way tie today, Dennis Grote holds on to the final qualifying position for World Series.
September 1, 2018 (Warrenbrook)
Frank Tniry, DGA played consistently throughout the round and paces the field by 5 stokes. Frank was edged out for the F9 and B9 nassaus but did place in two other pots. Interestingly, 5 of the top 6 spots took home all of the $. Mike Rolph caught fire on the B9 for a net 29 (3-over par gross 39) to tie for 4th and a good Johnny.
Seven guys shot net par or better to put the beer line at 1-under par 70.
