DGA a NJ Golf Club
August 1, 2017 (Neshanic Valley R/L)
Ron Emma wins by 3 shots over Mike Jeffries on a very slow day at Neshanic. Their must have been two 300 LBS lineman playing ahead of us who didn't know how to pick up their feet - the greens were in tough shape around the cup.
August 5, 2017 (Neshanic Valley R/L)
Mr. Minutello wins by 2 over Mike Jeffries, mostly due to solid putting. Dave Perry, judging by the bar stories rolled a half dozen drives but apparently had no problem on the par threes. Line of the day went to an un-named struggling player who after losing his 8th ball of the day turned to his cart mate and said "I may need that ball I gave you back".
Ron Emma wins by 4 shots over Jim Rinaldi. The greens were typical FH fast and if you were above the cup it was an automatic 3 putt unless it went in.
World Series #4 was decided in impressive fashion at Quail Brook today. Shawn Smith shot a net 34 on the front and started off the back with an Eagle and never looked back. He finished with a Net 31 for a net 65. His Eagle was 5 wood/sand wedge from 80 yards. It hit the front of the green , hit the pin and went in. There were two players at 66, Mansour Rismanchi and Mark Schuler. Mansour Rismanchi and David Ellis shot Net 28 to win the front and back respectively. David was 1 over on the back. He had 4 greenies and won both gross and net par 3's. Min Minutello won the bird pot and the sandy pot.
In the Aggregate race Mark Schuler had to focus on his individual match as well as the Aggregate. He was able to maintain his composure to card a net 66 and win the Aggregate Race by seven strokes over Jim Rinaldi, 276 to 283. Mark also beat Bob Nowark by 1 after being down as many as four during the match.
Congratutlations to Shawn and Mark for qualifying for World Series.
August 19, 2017 (Spooky Brook)
Jim Rinaldi nipped Min Minutello by 1 shot on a steamy, humid day. Jim shot Net 65 (Gross 75) to Min's Net 66 (Gross 82….better than his age AGAIN!). Course was soft due to recent rains and greens were slower than usual. Ron Ceglia Sr started Double, Triple and then ripped off 9 straight pars....but wilted in the heat on 17 and 18.
August 23, 2017 (Neshanic Valley - M/L)
Shawn Smith nips Min Minutello by a strokes and wins with a net 75. Dennis Grote does a rarity in a bad way with a Mega Johnny, net 37 on the front and net 60 on the back.
Bob Nowark rides his 29 strokes and shoots a net 59 for a 5 stroke win over Cavallo. Based on USGA Probability Charts, the odds are 185 to 1 that a 25.7 Index shoots a Gross 88, yet he's done it twice in his last four rounds!?!? In Match Play, Wrobel defeats Grote 8 & 6 and Babo defeats Thiry, F. 3 & 1. Courteous Player of the Year goes to Greg Cavallo who allowed the group behind them to play through on the 6th hole... There were two people who shot 50-34. The Last group had 2 double hits on the day. Dennis Grote double hits a putt and Thiry, F. double hits a 3-wood TEE SHOT on #8 into the hazard left. Fitz takes a 16 on #6, but on a positive side only loses 1 ball! (see Cavallo above). Good to see Luke Wolters in NJ for a round of golf.
August 30, 2017 (Barefoot - Love, South Carolina)
Beautiful day at the Love Course for 3 DGAers. Dave Perry outlasted our host, Mr. Nolan, by 3 strokes. But DP and GK lost big to GN and some guy named "Sly" who used his 16 shots wisely for net 66.
3 of the 4 condo mates plus FTDGA went to Sea Oaks in a last minute decision. Judging by the scores, our condo is in deep trouble - all bets are off - kidding - help us Luke. Course features lost of trees, bushes, bunkers and undulating greens leading to many searches and a 5 hour round. Should be a fun WS. Jim Petronchak wins by 2 over FTDGA...not much else to say given the quality of golf.
