DGA a NJ Golf Club
September 30, 2017 (Green Knoll)
Jim Petronchak edges Bruce Rapp and Larry Thiry on a tough conditions day at Green Knoll. Very Windy, firm, fast greens and some tough rough made for generally higher scores with plenty of equities, and 3 Johnnys. Bob Babetski defeats Mark Schuler to move on to the finals. In the category of unusual, someone lost the front wheel on their push cart in the high grass and didn't notice until later.
September 28, 2017 (Forsgate Palmer)
Thanks to George Nolan and Dave Perry we were able to play Forsgate. Dave starts out with a bird on #1 and never looks back, cruising to a 9 stroke victory. Tough greens, quirky holes and plenty of noise from the NJ Turnpike made for an interesting round.
September 23, 2017 (Spooky Brook)
The Rough was high at Spooky Brook and the recently aerated Greens caused quite the havoc, but Rich Fitzgerald's smooth-no-look-false-start putting stroke prevailed as he shot a Net 59. It was a 4 stroke victory over Bruce (Why did I cancel my Bets?) Rapp who shot Net 63. In Match Play, Schuler and Babetski played to a Tie.
September 22, 2017 (Plainfield)
A beautiful day on a championship course that is being prepared for the Junior President's Cup. Very fast greens and deep bunkers made for a stern test. Ron Emma wins easily.
September 16, 2017 (Sea Oaks CC - World Series Day)
You couldn't have asked for a better weather day in September for a golf tournament at Sea Oaks. Frank Thiry shot a sizzling net 29 on the back 9 for a Johnnie and finished with a net 69 and beat Greg Cavallo by 1 stroke. Frank also won the 2017 World Series Championship by three strokes (more to follow on that). Frank and Bruce Rapp both finished with 1 birdie, 9 net birdies and 2 net eagles. Jim Petronchak had three greenies and 13 gross on par 3's.
All and all it was a good day and a great World Series weekend.
September 15, 2017 (Sea Oaks)
Eleven DGAers played Sea Oaks for a pre World Series round. Min took advantage of his winter league course knowledge and ran away from the field for a 8 shot win over Dave Perry and Mansour. Min accomplishes the feat - again, ho hum - of beating his age with a gross 81 and having a share in most pots. Dave found his game on the back 9 with a net 28 and a good Johnny.
Highlight - Nowark cards a net 0 with a birdie on the par 3 7th hole.
Lowlight - Jeffries and DeSimone get off to stellar starts going 8-8 and 10-10 respectively... notice their finishing spots.
September 9, 2017 (Quail Brook OLD)
Ed Korleski plays a steady round, despite some putting woes, to win by 1 shot over Mr. Fitzgerald. Course conditions were good but the wind was a factor later in the round. Despite some big numbers there was only 1 Johnny (which could not be blamed on the wind). Bruce Rapp (and his new friend Quatto) make their first appearance post ATV accident. The team of Price & Rutigliano move on in Partners with a 3 up win over Fitz and Cegs Jr.
September 2, 2017 (Warrenbrook)
Gary Yusko sizzles on a very cool September day. Gary shoots a Net 66 for an EIGHT stroke win over three other guys. The fairways at Warrenbrook were hard and fast but nothing compared to the speed of the Greens. They were the fastest that anyone has ever experienced in Somerset County. The Beer Line was 77 and there was one Johnny on the day.
