DGA a NJ Golf Club
June 29, 2017 (Fox Hollow)
Dan Price birdies the first 3 holes on his way to a net 65. John Rutigliano and Dan split all of the pots. Shawn Smith gets in the money by winning the back nine.
June 24, 2017 (Neshanic Valley Ridge/Lake)
Yet another Dave Parry Neshanic day as he runs away from the field playing consistent golf amid a litter of empty Coors Light cans (the writer helped that cause), Despite dire looking early weather the sun came out full force as the dedicated hit the first tee. Conditions were great. Score cards were another issue, math errors, inverted nines (hint 1st nine is always the odd handicap), missing pot results, 1 group had no real net card, another took an inordinate amount of time and still had errors...thank God there were only 9 players. Hail Dave King of Neshanic.
June 17, 2017 (Neshanic Valley Ridge/Lake)
Golf Interrupted - It was a cloudy rainy day in which play was stopped halfway thru the round. This allowed Dave Perry to replenish with additional swing oil which resulted in a net 67 and a 4 stroke victory over Gary Yusko. In possibly a DGA first, a Singles Match was played inside a Partners Match, inside an Individual Tournament. Dave Perry wins the Triple Crown as he won for the day, defeated L. Thiry on the 3rd try in Match Play while he and Schuler defeated the Thiry brothers in Partners +4. In other Partners Matches, Cavallo/Korleski defeat Petronchak/Rolph +9 and Ellis/Yusko defeat Minutello/Smith +6. #5 Ridge collected 15 Equities on the day, 10 by a single person.
June 14, 2017 (Neshanic Valley Meadow/Lake)
A very slooooow round at Neshanic. Not exactly sure why but everyone was looking in the high grass for balls. Mansour lands from Turkey on Tuesday and has a one shot win over price and Perry.
Several DGA members played a challenging course and the course won. FT can share more details on request.
Frank Thiry shoots a career best net 57 for an easy 6 shot win over Dennis Grote. Frank qualifies for WS and sets the all time net record for the front nine at Spooky with a 25. Ron Ceglia JR had 4 birdies on a day with very low scores - 6 guys tied for 3rd with 65s. Dan Price defeated Petro +1 and Larry and Dave tied. The Bobbies advanced +5 and Ron JR and Fitz advanced +2.
Rough was very thick and difficult. Felt like US open rough. Ron Emma got hot on the back by making birdie on 12 and 14 and held on for a 2 shot win. The first group finished 40 minutes before the second group
June 4, 2017 (Old Barnstable, MA)
It was a top ten weather day on the Cape. Another great course although still no sand in any bunker - not sure there is any on the Cape. Jim Rinaldi gets an easy two shot win. The four DGA men won more than half of the prize money even though there were 16 people in the tournament. Not sure they will invite us back. We learned some new golf rules and competitions. One we'll recommend on a future trip and one we won't. They played a came of cards each day that was based on your number of putts. A one putt gets you a card, a two putt nothing, a three putt you put $1 in the pot, four putt $2 and so on. You track this each hole. Only putts on the green count. Each night you get your cards and pay up....Min won $53 the first night with seven cards. Rinaldi had 10 cards both nights and won nothing. The other rule was hit two balls out of bounds, proceed to the 100 yard marker, take your 'drop' and hit near the green, but not on to save yourself the first putt. We were playing stableford so they were out of the hole anyway, but was interesting or crazy to watch.
The Round started with Rain and 50 degrees and ended Sunny and in the 70's. Similar to the weather, there were some bad rounds and some good. Bob Nowark gets the win by 1 stroke with a Net 68. There were two Individual Match's played. In the first Match, F. Thiry defeats Rapp 2 & 1, in the other Match, Cavallo wins 8 & 7 over Smoot.
June 3, 2017 (Cranberry Valley, MA)
The four DGA guys played together and order was restored. Zero illegal drops today. Min with his 21 gets a two shot win. Great course. Min's handicap will be reduced by four shots for Sunday and Ron's by one…..interesting rules here in Cape Cod.
Four guys played in the crazy Cape Cod tournament….we played using the rules of golf and the rest of guys did something else. Was total chaos. The chaos didn’t seem to bother Min that much although he did mention it several times while the other non DGA guys took their 21st illegal drop of the round. Min gets a one shot win once we realized that his correct handicap was 22 and not 21. Jimmy had four birdies and one was a 120 yard "recovery" shot from the fairway...jarred it despite the two non dga guys standing on the green at the time. Tomorrow it will be a DGA foursome for sure.
June 1, 2017 (Captains)
Mike gets a two shot win on a great day on the cape. Greens were slower than any we could remember. Nice tree lined fairways provided a nice challenge.
